Internships

Earn academic credit of Internship Practical Learning Experience in Sociology. Internships can enrich students' university time, concretize concepts learned in other Sociology classes, assist in finding employment, and strengthen resumes.

Types of placements include health and social services for children, youth and adults, women's services, courts, correction, and police, social/political organizations, schools, sports, and other agencies, organizations, and groups.

There are many types of internships available with organizations that work with people, issues, and activities including: homeless juveniles, abused children, battered women, environmental advocacy, corrections, program development, mentoring, research, and public relations. Work environments vary by structure, size, for- or not-for-profit, government or private, on or off campus. Learning about these characteristics will help you realize the kind of work environments you prefer. Some placements provide specific opportunities for interns, such as recruiting members, raising funds, assisting in a classroom, or working with people who need a particular type of help. Other placements will offer students latitude in choosing the type of work you pursue.
