Mission and Vision:
The Arc advocates to enhance the dignity, expand the opportunities, and protect the rights of persons with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc envisions a world in which all persons have the support and opportunities they need for personal development, independence, and interdependence with family and friends, and inclusion in the community.
Position description:
Working with adults with developmental disabilities
GAPS: The Guardianship, Advocacy, and Planning Services Program: Works to promote the rights, safety, and quality of life of adults in Oregon who are in need of Guardianship.
Stepping Out: This program offers recreational opportunities to adults. Helps people go out and have a good time, doing what they want to be doing, and expanding recreational and social opportunities
Parenting Class: Focuses on education and supporting parents with cognitive limitations/developmental disabilities to be successful at raising their children independently. Parents are taught positive interaction strategies. Class is parent driven and parents play an active role on deciding topics
Specific skills or experiences needed:
Positive, upbeat attitude
Open to learning
Good communication skills
Interested in people with developmental disabilities
Time requirements:
To be determined; minimum is 30 hours per quarter.
Internships are offered fall, winter, spring, and summer terms.
