The Arc of Lane County: Children and Youth Programs

Mission and Vision :
The Arc advocates to enhance the dignity, expand the opportunities, and protect the rights of persons with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc envisions a world in which all persons have the support and opportunities they need for personal development, independence, and interdependence with family and friends, and inclusion in the community.

Position description:
Working with youth participants with developmental disabilities
After School Recreation Program: On-site and community activities with participants 6 to 21 years of age
APLUS: Program for young adults that focuses on teaching independence
Saturday Respite Program: On-site and community activities with participants from birth to 21 years of age; gives parents a break
Summer Recreation Program: Popular day camp, activities with school age children
Lifespan In-Home Respite Program: One-on-one care in the home of the family or the provider.
The Arc Training Program: training opportunities for people who work directly with adults with developmental disabilities
The Public Information Program: Offers current information on mental retardation and related services by utilizing the media, sponsoring public meetings on subjects of concern, distributing information, and publishing a newsletter

Specific skills or experiences needed:
Positive, upbeat attitude and open to learning
Good communication skills
Interested in people with developmental disabilities

Time requirements:
To be determined; minimum is 30 hours per quarter.
Internships are offered fall, winter, spring, and summer terms.
