Mission and Vision:
The Arc advocates to enhance the dignity, expand the opportunities, and protect the rights of persons with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc envisions a world in which all persons have the support and opportunities they need for personal development, independence, and interdependence with family and friends, and inclusion in the community.
Providing a single point of contact for families to access respite care is a crucial first step to helping families help themselves, thereby reducing stress, preventing abuse and neglect, and enhancing family preservation and support.
Position description:
Assist staff in some of the following:
Connect individuals and families with respite programs and providers that fit their needs
Provide respite-related information and referral in the community
Maintain a resource file on disability and health issues for both care givers and respite providers
Recruit and train respite providers through partnerships with community organizations
Link families with respite care payment resources when available
Educate the community about the need for respite and respite care funding
Specific skills or experiences needed:
Ability to do and/or learn some of the tasks listed in the position description and/or
to provide temporary, short-term care for children, adults, and/or seniors with special needs, health care concerns, chronic illness, and/or emotional and behavioral disorders
Positive, upbeat attitude
Good communication skills
Time requirements:
To be determined; minimum is 30 hours per quarter.
Internships are offered fall, winter, spring, and summer terms.
