HIV Alliance: Sana Needle Exchange

Organization:
To provide community education and advocacy to promote awareness and understanding of HIV disease. To empower individual through education and support to make health choices to prevent further infection. To provide health care and support services to those living with HIV.

The Sana Needle Exchange follows a harm reduction model and meets clients where they are at to provide information and supplies to help them reduce their risk of contracting HIV and Hepatitis C.

Position description:
Levels of trained volunteers include: staff, support workers, observers, needle exchange workers, and trained outreach workers.
Needle exchange interns will provide outreach and referrals to injection drug users by handing out clean needles and supplies.
Data entry
Supply filling
Special projects

Specific skills or experiences needed:
Training and supervision are provided; no previous experience required.
An open mind
Professional ethics
An ability to work with high-risk individuals

Time requirements:
Position requires at least 6-9 hours a week for at least one term (10 weeks).
Internships are offered fall, winter, and spring terms.
