HIV Alliance: High-Risk Counseling and Testing Program

Organization:
To provide community education and advocacy to promote awareness and understanding of HIV disease. To empower individual through education and support to make health choices to prevent further infection. To provide health care and support services to those living with HIV.

Computer Geek/Number Cruncher

Position description:
Assist in developing and maintaining confidential database for counseling and testing program

Specific skills or experiences needed:
Basic math skills
Access or Excel database knowledge
Good communication skills

Training provided:
HIV 101; HIV Prevention

Time requirements:
At least 3 hours a week for at least 4 months
Internships are offered fall, winter, and spring terms.

HIV Counseling Testing and Referral Volunteer

Position description:
Provide HIV counseling, testing, and referral services (CTS) to populations at high-risk for contracting/transmitting HIV in Lane County, including men who have sex with men, injection drug users, homeless youth, Latinos. Staff and volunteers are to provide these services from a client-centered, harm reduction approach.

Specific skills or experiences needed:
6 months experience working with marginalized/underserved populations
Strong communication skills
Ability to maintain client confidentiality
Solid professional boundaries
Spanish fluency especially needed

Training provided:
Client-centered counseling; HIV 101-201; CTS policies and procedures; Harm reduction and counseling; CTS direction observation and supervision

Time requirements:
At least 6 evening hours per week in addition to 5 days training; commitment of 1 year.
Internships are offered fall, winter, and spring terms.
