Position description:
CPY provides mentors for youth through Pathfinders (middle school students), Turnaround (middle or high school students expelled from school), and Bolder Options (youth involved with juvenile court).
Senior Practicum positions: Serve as Program Assistants, representing CPY to a variety of individuals and groups. They assist staff in recruiting mentors, and in orienting youth, participants, and parents. They develop and implement group activities and check in with mentors and youth.
Junior Practicum positions: Serve as Program Assistants representing CPY to a variety of individuals and groups. They assist staff with program and office duties, including PR events to recruit mentors, help develop and implement programs, enroll youth, match youth and mentors, and plan and facilitate the Pathfinder Retreat weekend.
Junior/Senior Mentor Intern positions mentor an at-risk youth, work one-on-one, and attend mandatory training and mentor support meetings. They perform additional agency-related duties as necessary.
Volunteers at all three levels attend team meetings, training, and program activities with staff.
Specific skills or experiences needed:
For all positions: Maintain confidentiality, use positive communication skills, and work with a diverse population. Have own transportation. Willing to work with at-risk youth. Good problem-solving, communication, public speaking, and public relations skills.
For Senior Practicum position: Ability to work as a member of a team, work independently, and be self-initiating using instructions from staff. Good computer skills (Mac and PC Window Systems). Willing to attend regular mentor training at the beginning of the term.
For Junior Practicum position: Good computer skills (Mac and PC Window Systems)
For Junior/Senior Intern position: Willing to work with at-risk youth one-on-one.
Time requirements:
For Senior Practicum position: Work 9 hours per week/90 hours per term for 3 terms.
For Junior Practicum position: Work 9 hours per week/90 hours per term for 3 terms.
For Junior/Senior Intern position: Work at least 9 hours per week/90 hours per term for 12 months.
Internships are offered fall, winter, spring, and summer terms.
