ShelterCare is a private, nonprofit human services agency, operating 11 programs, maintaining 10 facilities, and supporting a community-wide continuum of care for three service populations: 1) families with children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, 2) adults disabled by acquired traumatic brain injury, and 3) adults diagnosed with severe, persistent mental illness, many of whom are dealing with homelessness issues.
Position description: Intern Counselor Advocate II
Works with residents.
Assists in providing skills training and treatment.
Responds to crisis and emergency situations.
Assists in maintaining records.
Assists in provision of counseling, advice, and supervision.
Attends and participates in staff meetings.
Attends training and workshops as required.
Experience working with persons diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness.
Ability to physically control and restrain violent persons.
Time requirements:
Hours are negotiable.
Internships are offered fall, winter, spring, and summer terms.
