ShelterCare is a private, nonprofit human services agency, operating 11 programs, maintaining 10 facilities, and supporting a community-wide continuum of care for three service populations: 1) families with children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, 2) adults disabled by acquired traumatic brain injury, and 3) adults diagnosed with severe, persistent mental illness, many of whom are dealing with homelessness issues.
Riverbend provides support and housing in residential settings that enable individuals with a severe mental illness to regain well-being and achieve the greatest independence possible.
Position description:
Provide support and assist regular staff in providing mental health service to adults with psychiatric disabilities
Assist facilitation of treatment and recreational groups
Provide life skills training on an individual basis to clients
Specific skills or experiences needed:
Patience is a must.
Ability and willingness to work with people.
Knowledge of local social services and resources is helpful, but not necessary.
Ability to attend orientation and training.
Time requirements:
Hours required 5-10 per week; must commit to at least two terms or 20 weeks.
Internships are offered fall, winter, spring, and summer terms.
