ShelterCare: Uhlhorn

General Description of Position:

Teaching various life skills and memory skills to residents of ShelterCare's Uhlhorn Program, which serves adult survivors of traumatic and acquired head injury.


Description of Duties
Listing of major duties with a percentage of time estimated for duties to be performed.

Major Duties: Must demonstrate the ability to do the following with or without accommodations.

Clinical: Instructing Uhlhorn residents about the following topics: money management, social skills, hygiene and housekeeping, time management, use of memory book, managing stress and depression, communicating medical symptoms to the appropriate sources, and how to safely and effectively navagate in the community (community integration).

 

90%

Team member: Communicating with Uhlhorn program staff after each class. This dialogue would emphasize any relevant treatment issues about Uhlhorn resident that staff should be made aware of.

 

 

10%

Climate: This volunteer must serve Uhlhorn clients with respect and compassion, and participate as part of a cohesive treatment team.

Qualifications, Experience, and Education

Some experience in mental health or brain injury preferred. Experience working with adults with disabilities also preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred, although this would be a potential internship for the right undergraduate student. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
