Womenspace

Position description:
Womenspace seeks to end domestic violence by empowering women and children and by changing community standards. Domestic violence is emotional, physical, sexual or economical abuse. It is the most common and least reported crime in our country. There are many volunteer opportunities. Direct Service includes the Advocacy Center, shelter advocacy, crisis line, children’s advocates, rural outreach, and legal advocacy. Volunteers work in counseling, in school and community education, with community events, with the lesbian alliance, and behind the scenes in administrative work and maintenance. Seasonal volunteer opportunities include holiday gift wrapping, the annual spring auction, the lap-a-thon, and transporting donations.

Specific skills or experiences needed:
Ability to remain calm under stress
Good boundaries
Responsible and willing to keep the commitment of 6 months
Willingness to learn
Acceptance of diversity

Time requirements:
A minimum of 2 hours per week for 6 months.
Internships are offered fall, winter, spring, and summer terms.
