  • Scholarship Opportunity for Sociology Majors Interested in a Career in Social Work:

This $5,000 scholarship is for an outstanding undergraduate student majoring in Sociology in their junior or senior class years or graduate student in the Department of Sociology with a particular interest in pursuing social work as a career. Applicants will be evaluated based on the overall quality of their academic work, their commitment to learning, and their potential for further academic achievement. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need, as determined by the UO Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Applications for the Dianna May Woodruff Scholarship should be sent to Jocelyn Hollander; Admission and Awards Committee; Department of Sociology; University of Oregon; Eugene, Oregon 97403 (or taken directly to the Department Office – PLC 736). Applications should be received by Monday, January 12th.

  • Knight Library Undergraduate Research Awards:

The Knight Library is pleased to once again offer awards of $1000, and $500 (x2) for outstanding undergraduate research projects completed during the 2008 calendar year. The projects must be nominated by the faculty member responsible for the course.

  • Master's in International Development in Beijing, China

The Master's in International Development Program offered by Tsinghua The School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China is excited to announce that our Master's in International Development (MID) Program is now open for application for the enrollment of fall 2009.

The MID program is designed to prepare students to become active global citizens and to enhance their understanding of China's development experience.  It is an English taught full-time program of 18 months.  The program was launched in the fall of 2007.  Within less than 2 years' development, the second class - MID2008 is now hosting 32 students from 21 different countries, covering all the five continents in the world. In addition, there are some exchange students in the current class from our partner schools around the world, including LKY School of Public Policy, Sciences Po and Syracuse University.

According to the two MID classes, international students can benefit from several aspects through joining this program:
1.      18 months' experience in China;
2.      A Master Degree offered by China's top university;
3.      A limited number of scholarships are available;
4.      Chinese language training;
5.      The program focuses on development in general and China's recent development in particular;
6.      The program will be taught by some leading intellectuals in contemporary China.
