The graduate training program in sociology is designed for students who wish to obtain the Ph.D. in preparation for professional careers in teaching and research. We do not offer a terminal Master’s degree. Close working relationships are maintained between graduate students and faculty. Students often have opportunities to do supervised teaching of University classes. The department places a strong emphasis on research and many students will find opportunities to participate in projects conducted by faculty members.
The University operates on a quarter system. Fall term begins the last Monday in September. Basic graduate courses in sociology are not offered during the Summer Session.
The Graduate School of the University of Oregon requires the Ph.D. be completed no later than seven years after entering the Ph.D. program, regardless of leaves.
The deadline to apply to our program is January 15.
